Your call to arms from one who answered…

craftsmanspathcover.jpg

A Craftsman’s Path is a call to arms for those who feel destined to the fold. Its focus on preparing and maintaining oneself and one’s life on the path as an artist/craftsperson is rooted in what I wish someone had told me as I first stumbled onto - and with - this way of living.

Chapter 1: The Path
”Though service of all kinds done with heartfelt endeavor is noble, still not everyone is here to be a baggage handler merely moving others’ whatevers from one place to another.”

Chapter 2: The Self
”Success on any path is often determined not by highest skill or handiest connection, but by the ability to keep ourselves together enough to take the opportunities that may come our way.”

Chapter 3: The Workshop
”…Is the temple where you do and the work you have been given becomes… also where the greatest work will be done on you by the process. It is building you as you are building it.”

Chapter 4: The Tools
”Tools deserve to be used up. Machines deserve to be worn out. Men should aspire to the same… make them yours until they again disperse into other hands to serve.”

Chapter 5: The Craft
”Something handmade should be - at a level much higher than homemade - identifiable as human craft. That little variance you have to feel with the fingers? That’s me.”

Chapter 6: The Knowledge
”If you are truly seeking the knowledge, you will seek those who truly know. Not experts of the digital age, debating and decrying. The ones you seek are in their workshops making it happen.”

Chapter 7: The Legacy
”Answer and offer enough and the name will take care of itself. In a hundred years we will all be old bones. Our choice is what to do with what we have. What will we make of it?”

About the songs on the companion CD:
(CD is ONLY available with the signed copy from the author)

Working With The Wood
My story, the story of my workshop, and one of the true craftsmen who I patterned my life after.
“Are they ever really gone if their work is carried on?”

Lipton’s Cup of Uncle John
A tall tale of mis-stored ashes and the single greatest song I could write in tribute to this craftsman friend and mentor, a true original.

Good With a Wrench
To serve is to become a tool yourself… this is about a man and tools and, slowly and steadily over time, moving the world. Craft takes many forms through sometimes reluctant heroes. Written & recorded out on the road in a van.

Be The Blessings
Do something with your powers. “From the inside out, from the up side down / be the blessings you believe in, and the rest will come around.” Recorded in a motel room somewhere out on I-10 with a pawn shop Strat.

Pebbles
”They don’t have to get you, they don’t have to like your favor - all the ones who write you off have all done you a favor.” A battle song for your validity. Smaller pebbles than us have rippled the water, my friends.

(All songs written, performed & produced by Scott Beckwith / Parking Lot Music BMI)
